Where Do You Find Delight?

[Day 28 of my church’s 40-day REND 960 season of fasting & prayer]

In the opening verses of Isaiah 58, God speaks to His people about hos they seem to want to “be near” Him and seem to want to “know His ways”. This would seem to be a good thing, except that He confronts their selfishness, saying that what they while they are fasting, they really are just doing what they want. They are unconcerned about what’s on His heart. I noticed while reading that even these terms seem to paint a picture of the people just willing to be near the fringes of Him, not really desiring to dive in to the shoreless ocean that is God.

But, for those willing to go “all in” to His heart, he says this:

Isaiah 58:”If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
and call the Sabbath a delight
and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
or seeking  your own pleasure, or talking idly;
14 then you shall take delight in the Lord,
and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

If I could put this in my own words I would say it like this:

“If you will make choices to do what I ask of you, and value what I value, you’ll suddenly find that I AM THE MOST ENJOYABLE pursuit there is!”

I tell you, this is the truth! There’s nothing better than God! Fellowshiping with Him IS riding on the high places! It’s in being the “Jacob generation”, those that seek the face of God!

May you experience the greater pleasures of knowing God! He is good!
