No Longer Servants

[This post is part of a 40-Day season of fasting and prayer my church is doing called “Rend 960”]
Day 14
John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
Though it is good, noble and right to desire to serve God, that is not Jesus’ greatest desire. He’s not most interested in getting us to do stuff for Him. No, He’s looking for FRIENDS. In fact, He calls us friends, and enjoys most to relate to us in that way.
Why? Because it’s always been about Love for Him. A servant does their duty, and when duty is over, they are gone. There is no heart investment. A friend is invested. They will join in with “the stuff” but linger after because they love their Friend. And because they love their Friend, they care about what He cares about. They have a heart investment in Him, so what matters to Him matters to them.
We’ve been invited into friendship with God! He wants to share with us ALL that is in His heart. The deepest longings and desires, He longs to share them all with us! We are invited to share in what HE is doing.
As we are praying and fasting, if your motivation is simply to fulfill your duty and serve God well…. it’s going to be difficult to sustain, enjoy and embrace this season of fasting. But, if your heart is connected to Jesus in love, you will receive so much! I want to encourage you to position yourself as a friend of God. And incline your ear to hear. He has so much in His heart and He’s looking for friends to share it with. Why not you?
Grace and Peace to you!
