“It’s only a good fight if you win!”
Psalm 144:1 Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.
The Lord wants to teach us how to wage war in the Spirit, and His plan is for us to always WIN, by walking in Jesus’ (already established) victory. So, there is a “fight”, but it’s a little different than what we usually think. Most believers in Jesus experience spiritual warfare, either in the form of temptation, discouragement/depression, frustrations as we pursue God/His plans, and many times in relational conflict with others. Regardless of what form these attacks take, we must realize that we are NEVER fighting people, even if there are other people involved. Our fight is in the spiritual realm (Ephesians 6:12). So, we fight with spiritual weapons, which are powerful enough to demolish the work of the devil (2 Corinthians 10:4): worship, prayer, the Word of God; and when dealing with people: Divine Love (yes, Love is a weapon!!).
So as we take up our spiritual weapons (worship, prayer, the Word), we should remind ourselves that we never have to play on the level of the devil, because we are seated with Christ (Ephesians 2:6)! So, we make our “war”, from His Throne! Additionally, we don’t have to simply “defend” ourselves… the best winning teams have a great OFFENSE — we make the first move, and WE are in control, not our opponent! So, instead of shouting at demons and speaking against the work of the devil (this is not bad, but it’s only “defense”). Here are our OFFENSIVE weapons, mighty in God:
1. Declaring the victorious reign of Jesus.
2. Declaring Jesus’ return.
3. Declaring God’s goodness and His Love.
These truths are the best weapons because they pronounce judgment on the enemy and his works. They also speak Truth against the lies and accusation that pour forth day and night. So, we take these truths and pray them, sing songs about them and read Scriptures (aloud) — and in doing so (keeping our eyes on the Throne of God) we are destroying the works of the evil one!!
Using these themes in thanksgiving and praise also brings the manifest Presence of God into your place/situation. So, praise Him (“Jesus, You reign as King forever! You’re coming again soon! You are Good!”). It changes everything when you invite the Presence of God to come in a manifest way. 🙂
Related to that, when we declare and agree with His Holiness, we are bringing the Kingdom and government of Heaven to Earth (as they say in Heaven around the Throne, “Holy, Holy, Holy”). This is the atmosphere of the Throne Room… “Hollowed be Your Name” … let Your Kingdom come! It will come as we proclaim his Holiness! Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is, and is to come!
Acknowledging and declaring His great Love and His goodness breaks the spirit of accusation and condemnation — the lies that seek to speak to our heart that He is mad at us or that we are not wanted; that God is holding out on us, etc.
There you go, a whole arsenal of weapons to take up as we “fight the good fight”, knowing that He IS Good, that he is GOD, and that His victory is assured! These truths/declarations make “spiritual warfare” a JOY, because it’s all about exalting our great Savior, praising His glorious name and receiving His goodness and love!
Psalm 97:11-12
11 Light shines on the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.
If you belong to Jesus, light and joy are shining on you! REJOICE! Get up and do a dance of praise! And, when you’re done, get up and do it again! (“and again I say, Rejoice!”).
