Weekly Word- Hebrews 1 & 2

We’re Prone to Wander: Remember!

Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Hebrews 2:1-4 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. for if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. god also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Since we’re spending this month looking at the book of Hebrews, it’s only fitting that this weekly encouragement should do the same.

In chapter 1, the writer tells us that God has spoken, and IS speaking, and most importantly He is speaking through the very Person of His Son Jesus.

Who IS this Jesus?  He is:
-the RADIANCE of God’s Glory!
-The EXACT expression of the heart of God
-the One who’s very Word has power to sustain all things!
-Seated at the right hand of His Father, forever enthroned as King!

Jesus, the Light of the world, the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind.  His life is the voice of God shouting loud and clear to all people at all times:  “I LOVE YOU!!!!”  It echoes into the past, reverberates in the present, and projects into the eternal future.  There is no place where His voice is not heard (see Psalm 19).

When our soul resonates with the Word from Heaven and we respond, we are saved.  Salvation is a glorious thing!

But, what then, once we are saved?

Chapter 2 calls us to REMEMBER and NEVER forget.  We must remind ourselves often of the power of this redemption that Jesus has accomplished to save us.  While we were DEAD in sin, He saved us.  In His great love and mercy He took us up out of the mire of sin and raised us up and seated us WITH HIM in Heavenly places (see Ephesians 2).  We didn’t deserve it, and we never will — but because His great LOVE, it is our REALITY!!  Hallelujah!

Why should remember, give praise and thank God for our salvation OFTEN??  Because if we don’t we are likely to DRIFT away (Hebrews 2:1).  This is our natural disposition!!  We DO backslide.  We must stay close to the reality of his great work in our lives.  Salvation is not just the “Beginners” lesson, it’s the very foundation of our standing before God!!!  And, remember it’s not just salvation “out” of sin, but INTO the very heavenly realms!   We must know  who we are and WHERE we are — it makes all of the difference when distractions come, when discouragement comes, when temptation comes, when a spirit of lethargy comes. . . we MUST Remember!!

And let’s listen, for He continues to speak through signs, wonders, miracles and the gifts of the Spirit.

What’s He saying to YOU today?
